Green Mobility and Logistics Accelerator
Green Mobility and Logistics Acceleration Programme is a dedicated initiative designed by two experienced Estonian innovation partners—Tartu Science Park and the Baltic Innovation Agency (BIA). To support early-stage startups in the green technology sector, with a particular focus on mobility and logistics solutions. The programme is rooted in the partners’ extensive experience in delivering incubation and acceleration services tailored to cleantech startups.
Estonia’s startup ecosystem is internationally recognised for its rapid growth and innovation. With approximately 1500 startups currently active and around 120 new ones emerging each year. Startups in Estonia contribute significantly to the national economy through tax revenues and high-value employment. Increasingly, these startups are turning toward climate goals, clean energy, and sustainable business models. Despite this, only 85 startups currently identify themselves as green technology companies in the Startup Estonia database—far fewer than actually operate in the sector.
The accelerator is structured into two phases: a 2-month pre-programme for at least 15 teams, and an 8-month core programme for at least 5 selected startups. During the pre-programme, teams develop a detailed Project Outline, enabling a clearer assessment of their market potential, scalability, and relevance to the mobility and logistics domain. Selected companies in the core programme will develop product or service prototypes and implement pilot projects, supported by mentors and programme experts. A key expected outcome is that at least two companies will secure private investments by the end of the programme.
The accelerator is committed to the “Do No Significant Harm” (DNSH) principle and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals. Only startups that have a positive environmental impact—through emission reduction or alignment with at least one of the six DNSH criteria—are eligible for the core programme. Each participating company will receive environmental and social impact assessments, provided by external third-party experts, as well as training and 1:1 advisory services on impact management.
This programme not only helps cleantech startups to grow but also empowers them to develop innovations that offer real, scalable, and measurable environmental benefits. The long-term impact of the Green Growth Accelerator is to increase the number of innovative, low-footprint technologies in mobility and logistics, and to equip startups with the tools and capabilities to scale these solutions sustainably across markets.
BIA serves as one of the core implementers of the Green Growth Accelerator, responsible for programme design, mentorship, impact evaluation and startup support services.
The Green Growth Accelerator aims to accelerate the development of cleantech solutions that improve local living environments, support national climate goals, and strengthen collaboration across the public sector, industry, and communities. By empowering green startups, the programme helps Estonia become not just an adopter, but a creator and exporter of innovative green technologies, reinforcing the country’s role in the global green economy.
